SIMULATION IN HEALTH CARE EDUCATION IN NM
College of Nursing Building, UNM/HSC North Campus - Albuquerque, NM
Nationally, there is a growing need to increase the use of technology for teaching clinical experiences. As enrollments increase, clinical sites will be overwhelmed with offering hands-on, effective, and supervised clinical nursing education. Simulation offers a solution in that it mimics the reality of a clinical environment. Simulation can demonstrate procedures, decision-making and critical thinking through role-playing and devices such as interactive videos or mannequins. Simulation devices can range from providing some semblance of reality (low-fidelity) to being highly sophisticated and providing a virtual experience (high-fidelity).
This one day conference is being hosted by UNM/HSC College of Nursing and the University Hospital’s Department of Clinical Education. Faculty and administrators of statewide nursing schools and other health care educational programs are welcome to participate. Nursing contact hours will be offered. The objectives of the conference are to:
· Explain how simulation can be used to enhance the clinical component of nursing education.
· Discuss the costs and considerations for establishing and maintaining a simulation program.
· Assess the prospects of establishing a state-wide consortium on simulation in health care
